SC2023

The SC23 edition of the Birds of a Feather Americas High-Performance Computing Collaboration: Global Actions seeks to showcase collaborations that have resulted from the partnerships formed since the first edition at SC19, presenting opportunities and experiences between different HPC Networks and Laboratories from countries in North, Central, and South America with other continents, mainly with Europe. In the BoF, different aspects will be discussed around the expectations and experiences of collaboration in HPC, to feed the continental roadmap. This BoF is a crucial step to support the signature of an MoU to start formalizing the Americas HPC Collaboration.

The fifth edition of the Birds of a Feather (BoF) Americas High Performance Computing (HPC) Collaboration seeks to showcase collaborations that have resulted from the partnerships formed in the last edition of this BoF at SC22. It will also present opportunities and experiences between different HPC Networks and Laboratories from countries in North, Central, and South America. There are two main goals of this BoF: The first one, discuss how to create a formal continental collaboration in the Americas, observing the experiences in other continents, mainly in Europe, and the second, show the global actions developed for the partners from USA, CANADA and Latin America, with other continents in real global actions.

The BoF Americas HPC Collaboration presents this year the experiences of different projects as the case of the RISC-2 Project (https://www.risc2-project.eu/) involving Latin American centers and universities, mainly managed by SCALAC and coordinated by the Barcelona Supercomputing Center. Additionally, the BoF Americas HPC collaboration invites representatives of the European HPC Joint Undertaking consortium (https://eurohpc-ju.europa.eu) to understand how the European HPC collaboration evolves and promotes research and development in the continent.

The outcomes of this BoF are described next. First, following the construction of the formal Americas HPC Collaboration in a consortium, joining the three (3) main HPC region actors in the continent: USA (represented by the ACCESS actors and DoE), Canada (Represented by Alliance Canada), and Latin America and the CAribe (Represented by SCALAC). After this BoF, we pretend the signature of an MoU between the actors to start the actions of formalizing the Americas HPC Collaboration.
